be a foster - Making a Difference

What does it mean to be a foster with Daisy's Promise Dog Rescue, Inc?

Being a foster parent for a safety-net crisis dog rescue means providing temporary, stable, and compassionate care for a dog whose family is experiencing a short-term crisis, with the goal of keeping that dog safe until reunification is possible. In a program like Promise Place, foster parents are not replacing the dog’s family. They are stepping in as a temporary support system during emergencies such as housing instability, hospitalization, mental health treatment, domestic violence, or other family crises.

A crisis-care foster parent offers a safe home, daily care, enrichment, observation, and emotional stability while the dog’s owner works through the crisis. This includes helping maintain the dog’s routine, watching for medical or behavioral concerns, and supporting a low-stress, fear-free environment. The role is rooted in compassion, patience, and understanding, because both the dog and the family may be experiencing trauma and uncertainty.

What makes this different from traditional rescue fostering is that the primary goal is usually reunification, not adoption. Foster parents are caring for a dog on behalf of its family, helping preserve that bond whenever possible. If reunification cannot happen, the program may then move into owner-assisted rehoming.  Some circumstances may/can require confidentiality.
